Each year, the Pan Asia Institute will provide financial support for graduate students to participate in a variety of academic exchange programs. The Institute will provide finalists with roundtrip economy-class airfare as well as a modest living stipend. If your academic interests include areas related to Asia we would encourage you to consider participating in a PAI Graduate Exchange Program.
Short-Term Exchange Programs
If you are an advanced MA or PhD student, consider spending a semester conducting your research at ANU as a PAI Graduate Exchange Student. Students selected for the program will have access to faculty and research facilities during their stay of up to three (3) months at ANU. All interested students should begin the application process by identifying a faculty member at ANU with whom they can work, then notifying the Pan Asia Institute to start the actual application process. The student will pay their regular IU tuition and fees to IU, and will receive travel and living support from the Institute up to a maximum amount determined on an annual basis by the Institute. Students will not be eligible to enroll in classes at ANU and will not receive a transcript from ANU. Please contact the Institute for complete details and requirements for the specific requirements of the applicant dossier. Initial approval for IU students is determined by IU’s Pan Asia Institute, and final approval is determined by ANU.
Graduate students who have completed at least one year of full-time academic study (or its equivalent) with a minimum GPA of a 3.5 on a 4.0 scale are eligible to apply. Students from any discipline are welcome to apply, but the focus of their research and/or academic program must be related to the pan-Asian region, and the student must have an identified ANU faculty mentor.
While preference is given to doctoral students, master’s students can also be considered. Students for whom English is not their native language must meet the English language proficiency requirements of the school they wish to attend.
In addition to the academic and language requirements noted above, students must have both an ANU and IU faculty sponsor for the short-term research-based exchange and will work closely with the Institute in this regard.
